The Board of Directors determines the goals, sets the direction, and approves or denies all policy matters of the Santa Barbara Association of REALTORS®. The membership of the Association has entrusted its Board of Directors and Officers with the duty and responsibility to manage the affairs of the corporation for the benefit of the membership and the public it serves.The Board receives these applications in the Spring.
The divergent interests of the Association and MLS membership are addressed in specialized committees that serve as a forum to help develop effective policies and day-to-day operations. Committee meetings are the training grounds for future leaders of the Association.
The Awards Committee is responsible for selecting and presenting Santa Barbara Association of REALTORS® members as well as members of our community with an award of recognition. The awards ceremony takes place at our annual Installation and Awards luncheon held in December.
The Budget & Finance Committee is perfect for members who are forward thinking and would like to participate in planning for the future of the Santa Barbara Association of REALTORS®. Committee members are responsible to direct and manage the assets of the Association and Multiple Listing Service and for systematically aligning resources with strategic needs and goals. This committee reviews monthly financial statements, investment policies and cash flow, and prepares the annual budgets for submission to the Board of Directors.
The Education Committee is a great way to get involved with the Santa Barbara Association of REALTORS®! This committee is responsible for putting on Tuesday’s Tips and Tastes, our monthly educational seminars. This committee gives you the opportunity to meet other individuals in the Real Estate Industry.
The Events Committee is a great way to get involved with the Santa Barbara Association of REALTORS®! This is a fun committee that is responsible for putting on our annual Charity Golf Tournament, Fiesta Kick-off Party and Member Appreciation Party. It gives you the opportunity to meet other individuals in the Real Estate Industry as well as members of our community.
The Government Relations Committee monitors legislative matters at all levels of government. Committee members will be asked to delve deeper on certain issues and help the Government Affairs Director with information and research and meet with elected officials in order to explain in-depth our position on an issue. SBAOR often comments on issues at various Boards, Commissions, City Council/Supervisor, and Statewide meetings. Attending and commenting at these meetings is important because as a member of GRC you have an in-depth knowledge of the issue(s) and are able to communicate it to the deciding body. Even if you do not want to comment, your presence is still important because the number of members we have in the audience matters.
Serves to review ethics complaints to insure the proper articles and sections of the Code of Ethics are cited based on the alleged facts and screen complaints in order to prevent abuse and harassment. The committee considered allegations of unethical conduct or violations of the MLS rules. The Grievance Committee does not determine guilt or innocence.
Monitors MLS procedures, recommends improvements to current systems, reviews costs and enforces MLS rules and regulations.
Ombudsmen’s role is one of communication and conciliation, not adjudication. Ombudsmen can help identify and resolved misunderstandings and disagreements before matters ripen into disputes and possible charges of unethical conduct.
Holds hearings and makes decisions regarding ethics violations and arbitrations. This committee is charged with the enforcement of the Code of Ethics and Membership Pledge and the MLS Rules, the disciplining of members, and the arbitration of disputes.
The REALTOR® Action Fund Committee educates and encourages REALTORS® to invest in the REALTOR® Action Fund. The RAF Committee raises funds for the REALTOR® Action Fund which is used to promote the values, attitudes, and beliefs of organized real estate; every dollar is used to protect and advance REALTORS® interests in government.
The Statistical Review Committee is for members who enjoy analysis, interpretation and presentation of real estate sales data. This Committee also organizes The Economic Forecast and presents statistics for members and the public.
The Community Outreach Committee is all about giving back to our local community. This is a fun committee that is responsible for putting on two fundraisers throughout the year. You will have the opportunity to meet other individuals in the Real Estate Industry as well as members of our community.
The Young Professional Network Committee is a fun and rewarding committee to serve on. The YPN committee participates in a minimum of four different community-based events each year. Events range from painting of low- income houses, beach clean-ups to building of playhouses etc. The YPN is a great place to expand your network by meeting and collaborating with other local young professionals.
